The federal government has shut down some illegal financial institutions operating in some parts of Lagos State. The illegal financial institutions were shut down following customers’ complaints of malpractices and invasion of privacy. In a chat with reporters on Friday, the Chief Executive Officer, Federal Competition Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Babatunde Irukera, said the illegal online banks were situated in Opebi Road, Ikeja area of Lagos. Irukera listed some of the illegal quick loan companies raided as GoCash, Okash, EasyCredit, Kashkash, Speedy Choice, Easy Moni. He disclosed that the raid was carried out by FCCPC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the Nigerian Police Force. Chidima Ojukwu, the prime suspect in the murder of Usifo Ataga, CEO of Super TV, has been crowned “Miss Cell, 2022”. Ojukwu had allegedly stabbed her victim to death after they checked into an apartment in Lekki, Lagos. She had fled until she was arrested by the police. Some suspects were also arrested in connection with the incident. However, there have been concerns over how the suspect has been treated in custody. She was once brought to the court without handcuff and on another occasion taken back to prison in an unpainted cab, fuelling suspicion that she is being given preferential treatment. Nice (Andrew) Omininikoron, the driver of the Bus Rapid Transit vehicle arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a passenger, Oluwabamise Ayankole, has been accused of engaging in illicit acts with another female passenger in Lagos State. The female victim, who spoke exclusively, accused Omininikoron of raping her on November 25, 2021. A three storey building in the Mushin area of Lagos State was, yesterday, destroyed by fire following an explosion of a 33,000-litre diesel laden tanker at Mobil Petrol Station, Idioro Alakara, Mushin area of Lagos State. Apart from the three storey building, which was beside the station, another building was affected. The owner of the rented apartment that got burnt, James Emmanuel, said he was at work when he was informed that his house had been gutted by fire. “I had to run from my working place to come here. By the time I got here, everything had been burnt down,” he said.
